American Democracy is Dead; Can we bring it back to life?

The Shreveport Times:

"Will Americans get their democracy back? I said after the 2000 election that we now had a totalitarian government but I don't think many people believed it. Nobody said a word in 2000 or before when Jeb Bush was clearing the way for his brother to win Florida. Remember how confident Jebbie was when he told his brother he 'had Florida.' If you were watching the count come in election night -- and they showed the Bushes watching -- it was announced that Florida had gone to Al Gore. I wish the media would replay that scene and people would see again the look on Jeb Bush's face. He looked totally shocked.

Then when the Republicans sent people (they were called Tom DeLay's henchmen) to Florida to interrupt the count nobody said a word. The Republicans lied when they said there was a time limit. Other counts in history had gone past that date but Americans believed them.

Then a large majority believed them when they said Saddam Hussein was responsible for Sept. 11. There was never any evidence then that he was. Scott Ritter, a former inspector for our government in Iraq, kept saying Saddam didn't have weapons of mass destruction, but once again Americans were gullible and believed the Bush administration's lies."
