Jack Danforth wishes the Republican right would step down from its pulpit. Instead, he sees a constant flow of religion into national politics. And not just any religion, either, but the us-versus-them, my-God-is-bigger-than-your-God, velvet-fist variety of Christian evangelism.
As a life-long Independent, I could not agree more.
I could never support people from a political party who seek advice on foreign policy from something called the Apostolic Congress, whatever the hell that is.
The Republican Party today, is unrecognizable from what it was during the time that my family liked Ike.
Since then, it seems they have become the party of corruption, crime, hypocrisy in the extreme and religious whackos who believe in a literalist interpretation of scripture that leaves God appearing schizophrenic.
If the centrist, true conservatives do not soon stand up for their country, their party will be relegated to the dust-bin of history.
