ABLE DANGER AND THE USS COLE
By Rory O'Connor, MediaChannel.org / NavySEALs.com
Is Kirk Lippold, commander of the ill-fated USS Cole, the latest career military officer to be victimized by the political miasma now surrounding the controversial Able Danger intelligence program? Although Lippold lacked "the specific intelligence" to prevent the October, 2000 al-Qaeda attack on the Cole, his superiors did not.

WAR'S TOLL ON THE PRESS
Jill Carroll is one of at least 31 journalists known to have been abducted in Iraq since the beginning of the war in 2003. At least 60 have been killed, as have another 23 members of journalists' support teams. In terms of expenditure on the safety of journalists, Iraq is probably the most expensive conflict in history, and the casualty toll is reflective of the danger.

HOW NATIONAL SECURITY INFORMATION GETS LEAKED TO THE MEDIA
The U.S. Department of Justice is conducting a criminal investigation to find out who told the news media about a secret surveillance operation run by the U.S. government inside the United States . LIBERAL MEDIA COWARDICE
Now we are seeing what were once considered the more intelligent and in some cases more principled media such as NPR, Salon and Mother Jones distance themselves from meaningful controversy -- —pulling the few wimpy punches they have. (Bullshit controversy, however, is still in fashion.)

BOND JUST PLAIN WRONG WHEN HE BLAMES MEDIA FOR BUSH'S FAILURES
Sen. Kit Bond deserves to be cut a little slack when it comes to his comments on the war on terror. The Mexico, Mo., Republican and Missouri's senior member of the U.S. Senate stands apart from many of his fellow senators. He's no John McCain or Jack Murtha, but just the same, Bond would make a poor foil for a Michael Moore film.

THE GOVERNMENT THAT CAN'T FIND OSAMA IS BACK ON THE 'NET PORN PATROL
For a government that - as proven by Osama's latest threats - can't penetrate Al-Queda, and can't penetrate international methamphetamine smuggling rings that are tearing your town apart with their poison - well, this government seems to care quite a bit about another kind of well, "penetration."

NEWSPAPER MAKES 'RIGHT' CHOICE ON IRAQ
Very few newspapers have ever come out for withdrawal from Iraq in their editorials. But this week a full and unconditional endorsement of Rep. John Murtha's withdrawal plan emerged from an unexpected source: a notably conservative daily controlled by Richard Mellon Scaife.
