Dis Bush, lose your job

It is “simply illogical,” says a high-level think tanker, to believe that Middle East peace can be achieved by pressuring Israel to return the West Bank to the Palestinians.

And yet, writes Herbert London, president of the Hudson Institute, the idea of shrinking Israel to its
pre-1967 borders has gained momentum and is now widely considered to be an indispensable prerequisite to peace.

But if Israel is forced to withdraw to its original boundaries, he warns, the existence of the Jewish state will be jeopardized.

“Every airplane entering and leaving Ben Gurion airport would be subject to attack from a shoulder-held missile launcher,” London declares in a new article published on the Hudson Institute website.

The think tanker notes that the West Bank is often referred to as “occupied territory.” He says this is like referring to California as “occupied territory” – both were secured during war.

Looking at the broader picture, London writes that both Israel and the Palestinians favor a two state solution in the Middle East – that is, separate Israeli and Palestinian nations living peacefully side-by-side.

“But the devil is in the details,” the Hudson Institute official observes.
