The Leaker-in-Chief Fessed Up

Maybe this is just the way things are done in Washington, D.C., but if that is true, it is a hell of a way to run a nation.

When Joe Wilson's OpEd hit the streets, everyone who read it or heard about it knew that what he was saying was a serious accusation, about a very serious matter.

Why not simply call a press conference and tell the American people the truth, straight up? Why, all of the back channel leaking, selectively, let us not forget, of classified information?

This is not about whether Junior was drunk when he nearly choked on pretzels or fell off his bike for the umteenth time.

This was an accusation, made by a former ambassador, under both Democrat and Republican administrations. So, why not a press conference?

NATIONAL JOURNAL: Bush Directed Cheney To Counter War Critic (07/03/06):

"President Bush told the special prosecutor in the CIA leak case that he directed Vice President Dick Cheney to personally lead an effort to counter allegations made by former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV that his administration had misrepresented intelligence information to make the case to go to war with Iraq, according to people familiar with the president's interview. "
