Protesters gather to denounce "Guantanamo North"

15 cheers for the Canadians.

Good on you, Neighbors

Protesters gather to denounce "Guantanamo North":

"MONTREAL -- Protests against the opening of a new prison in Kingston, Ont., are being held across the country this Saturday afternoon.

Opponents of the detention facility are calling it 'Guantanamo North,' in reference to the United States' notorious facility in Cuba.

Protesters are gathering in Montreal, Toronto, Quebec, Vancouver, Halifax and Cornwall to denounce the facility, which adjoins the Millhaven Federal Penitentiary.

In an official statement released by the Coalition for Justice for Adil Charkaoui, opponents of the new jail alleged that prisoners are to be held there without charges being laid against them, and based upon secret evidence."
